Before meeting this beautiful family for their summer portrait session, I had heard lots about The Broadmoor and its property but not properly explored the building or the grounds. Once it was decided that we would meet at the hotel, I visited in advance to get some ideas for where we might find pockets of beautiful light and spaces free from the many guests and tourists who walk the grounds. I was so excited once I’d seen the possibilities!
Ramona and David and their four lovely children met me there on a pretty summer evening and we had such a nice time just walking the grounds and getting to know each other. All of the kids were extremely well–behaved and polite. They made it so easy!
Here are some of my favorites moments captured:
I just love this quick moment between a Daddy and his baby girl.
In my experience, parents in general and mothers in particular, shy away from having their photo taken. They tend to want the focus on the children and most haven’t had a “real” photograph taken of themselves, either alone or as a couple, since their wedding day. For this reason I gently urge the parents to let me grab just a few of them without the kids. I am so glad that Ramona and David obliged. I think these turned out beautifully.
Following our time at The Broadmoor I met the family back at their house to capture a few “everyday” moments of them in their element. They love to gather around the piano to sing together–which I think is just the best.
They are also a very active bunch–a family soccer game and some gymnastics after an ice cream break rounded out our evening.
